2016 Woodward Dream Cruise: Put it on Your Bucket List

Woodward Avenue, dubbed “America’s Oldest Highway” by enamored locals, is the long-serving epicenter of ad-hoc and sanctioned automotive gatherings in Detroit. Each year, as Michigan’s relatively short cruising season nears its autumnal close, enthusiasts from everywhere line every inch of Woodward for miles as drivers take their prized summer cars out for one last joyride. In recent years, the historically hot rod-centric crowd has expanded to include curiosities and modern classics. Today, Woodward is the place to see a mint-condition 1988 Pontiac Sunbird Turbo parked next to a 1955 Lincoln Continental, both owners swapping stories between waves of admiring onlookers. For one day, in one place, everyone shares a uniquely strong connection to the automobile. If you love cars, you have to go.

If you can’t attend in person, local TV station WXYZ-Detroit has a live Woodward Dream Cruise stream from 7-9 PM on Saturday, August 20. Scan the #woodward and #dreamcruise hashtags on Instagram for streaming stills from those on the ground. As always, major American manufacturers have a massive presence at the show: Dodge will display brand new iterations of the Challenger T/A and Charger Daytona; a new 50th Anniversary Chevrolet Camaro will lead a parade to celebrate the first Camaro’s induction into the National Historic Vehicle Register; a Ford GT is set to take center stage adjacent to the massive gathering known as Mustang Alley.
