These machines are built for speed. Derek “Kane” Long and Dez White, the brave drivers who pilot Team Pull-A-Part racecars, are built to show them off. Visitors to Pull-A-Part of Mobile and Pull-A-Part of Birmingham enjoyed an up-close look at each track-capable monster last week, with personal walkarounds hosted by the drivers themselves.
“Almost everybody who came to Pull-A-Part stopped by to look at or ask questions about the car,” said Dez White, a former Atlanta Falcons NFL standout who turned his focus to fitness and racing his Porsche 911. “We had about five offers from customers to buy the car.”
Kane brought both his Bomber Chevy Malibu and Modified racecars to Pull-A-Part Mobile with a bigger mission at hand.
“We started collecting school supplies for the kids at The USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital,” said Kane, whose Kane’s Warrior Kids operation provides services to children affected by pediatric cancer. “We were able to get toys and some great supplies from the public today. We will have more events to collect soon.”

It seems that a Pull-A-Part store appearance is a harbinger for good luck. Each driver immediately left for the racetrack after the meet-and-greet, and the results for both racers were filled with firsts and bests.
“Fastest overall in Time Trials by two seconds on super old tires,” White said. “Sunday, we put some new tires on and broke my track record by almost a second! Which is good, considering how hot it was. My previous record was set in February of 2014 in much better weather.”
Kane’s team faced hardship: a brand-new water pump was defective, exploded, and caused the radiator fan to ruin the radiator. Luckily, the team’s Pull-A-Part pluck helped them pull together a solution before the main event.
“It was great racing, and we were up to fourth place when we ran over some debris and blew the tire out at Turn Two,” Kane said. “But after a quick pit stop we were able to salvage a top five finish! So once again, thanks to Pull-A-Part, we will have another $100 for a local child fighting cancer.”
